Tony Naima & The Bitters - “Let The Napalm Rain (a Dismember cover)” @Myspace
Six months ago I wrote a short post on Tony Naima’s Dismember tribute album. On my year end’s list I gave it #10. Some month ago I listened to this again, it stuck on my car’s cd player for a good couple of days and every time “Let The Napalm Rain” gave me goosebumps. I hate to say it, but Tony Naima does Dismember better than Dismember themselves. It doesn’t matter are these death metal originals or not, this album is tryly great, innovative and energetic piece of music.
Chainsaw Dismemberment - “Fisting Till Bleeding” mp3 // “Zombie Infection” mp3 // “Suffocated Growls from the Rear Entry” mp3
“Put those fists in the fucking ass!!!” What? Sometimes it’s hard to explain why you do love metal and death metal especially so deeply. Finnish Chainsaw Dismemberment is not high IQ death metal, but their take on early 90’s style is so youthful and breathing it’s hard not to love them. “Fisting Till Bleeding” is the feel good hit of the summer, but listen to the stench of burning flesh on the guitar solo of “Suffocated Growls…”. 12-song demo and two live songs are available at Mikseri.net.
Kurhaus - “Propaganda of Dance” mp3
Another mp3 off their breath-taking A Future Pornography album. Dance like there’s no tomorrow!
Fulton Lights - “Thank God For the Evening News” mp3 // “Fire in the Palm of My Hand” mp3
If you’re reading this after 1 AM, please listen. One of those sample mp3’s that made me feel that I should buy the album just for the fact that it’s a debut, special pressing and one day will worth a fortune. But I won’t - yet.
Ghost Guard - “Hate Yourself Dead” mp3 // “Legacy Of Pain” mp3 // “Malice Intent” mp3
From Vaasa, Finland comes Ghost Guard. Rotten Sound’s Sami on drums. Their second demo Hate Yourself Dead doesn’t leave much to ve desired. Relentless beating from the word go. Leaves many other bands combining death metal to hardcore’s aggression behind. Hats off to Death influences.
Just recently noticed that there are a shitload of live videos at Nasum.com. Two shows from 1999, one from 2001 (the Osaka show) and one from 2004, filmed a mere 45 days before Mieszko’s untimely death in the tsunami disaster.
And please don’t forget that “A Welcome Breeze of Stinking Air” (mp3) is one hell of a song!
In the end we all will die

Some ideas are better than others, some get better recognized. Singer/songwriter Tony Naima’s idea to make a tribute album for death metal legends Dismember is one hell of an idea - not definitely great one, but hell of a one. His MySpace give two sample tracks; give them a go and see if you can find the death and metal there.
Deviant new material + a Nasum cover

Deviant - “To Give Ends” mp3
Deviant - “Inhale/ Exhale (a Nasum cover)” mp3
Swedish young death metal troopers Deviant have uploaded two unreleased tracks from their forthcoming four-song EP. New original tracks continues pretty much in the vein of their marvellous Larvaeon debut album, even if I’m sensing slightly more melodic approach.
Nasum cover is a Nasum cover, from a song that suits Deviant’s style better than many other Nasum songs wouldn’t.

I know you all love to use instrumental rock to fill your empty days. Kenoma is just that - Greek for “emptiness” or “void”- but also with heavier kick in the face that you’re used to. This is taken from Translation Loss Records’ split release with Mouth Of The Architect. Highly recommended!
Giant are working on the Isis formula, at least that’s the easiest way to describe their music. This reminds me a lot of True Nature Unfolds -era Callisto as well. If you love it slow and crushing, you give these guys a listen. Aversion Online says it with more words and also giving out another mp3.
First 15 seconds into the song and you’re asking yourself: “Is this really Cursive?” Then you suddenly recognize something familiar, relax and start to enjoy the damn tune. Anyway, Cursive are back. I can’t yet judge in what condition but they’re back and that is news on its own. The Ugly Organ’s follower Happy Hollow is out on August 22nd.
“Toiset on luotuja kulkemaan”. My Finnish readers should remember. There are snippets at Jukes’ site and I think I could like this album.

Francis Mantis - “Mantis Rising” mp3
Francis Mantis - “Creation Sickness” mp3
Kind of amplified emotions I like to get attached to. And guess what - they’re Swedish and a project band (with members of Division of Laura Lee and Frodus/Dechedron). I’d like to see the time when there wouldn’t be a new Swedish band coming my way every month. And with “new” I mean “good”.
How bad can a video rip be? Kids, back in the days of tape trading, this could’ve be the reality. However, this must be the worstcase scenario, Ulver from early 90’s. I love it how someone says it at the comments that “y’know, when it’s completely messed up like this, it kinda fits with their new style”. Hell yes!
The Harvey Girls‘ Our History Is Your Kitsch EP is all covers: Billy Idol, Blue Öyster Cult, The Flaming Lips, Bad Brains and more. And its free download.
Another five, no seven songs

My Latest Novel - “The Reputation of Ross Francis” mp3
Aerogramme - “Disciple” mp3
Under Byen - “Hjertebarn” mp3
Boy Omega - “If Only” mp3
Giraffe - “Smoke And Mirrors” mp3
Logh - “The Smoke Will Lead You Home” mp3
Tokyo Police Club - “Citizens of Tomorrow” mp3
Passing the midsummer is hard for a person whose cup is always half empty. I need more of these bright summer nights. And here are some music to spend those nights with. Half an hour altogether.
My Latest Novel are perhaps the next Arcade Fire or perhaps the first Arcade Fire copy. Or perhaps I’m double-wrong. Anyway, lovely song. Aerogramme’s Slayer contrubution was posted just the other day, but I found out that it fits in perfect here, so that’s why it’s included yet again. Under Byen are Danish. Beautiful music that’ll lull you to sleep.
I found out about the new Boy Omega album The Black Tango via Afterseason who had quoted (perhaps) the press release for the album. I quote too: “This album is basically about the ending of a three-year-old relationship.— It is about moving to a new place on your own, a new street, with a new graveyard outside your window. It is about the silence when you go to sleepalone, with cold feet, pretending the pillow is her.” That’s strong - and with such a beautiful cover I think this album is something I should get my hands on. It sound awfully lot Robert Smith, though.
Giraffe are unknown to me by any other means than his music. His self-titled album has been a sort of revelation to me during last few months. It’s available for download at the brilliant 12rec, and I also purchased an original cd-r copy. 12rec is brilliant, did I mentioned it already. Great, unique music offered for free downloads plus sold cheap in cd-r copies with admirable artwork. I’d say support! Anyway, Giraffe’s music is calm, emotional, nicely rough. Somehow the atmosphere of the record reminds of Logh’s first album Everytime A Bell Rings, but maybe it’s just the time of the year; I found out about Logh at the same season.
Which leads us to Logh. I will post about them everytime they have something new to share and this time it’s “The Smoke Will Lead You Home” from their latest record. It’ve stayed perfect.
Tokyo Police Club are Canadian, that I know. And their myspace site need someone’s extra care. That’s all I know. Cute song however.

About a month after 6/6/06 I found out that Aerogramme have released an exclusive version of “Disciple” on that day. It falls into the category of Slayer covers that you hardly, if at all, recognize the original but instead attach the sound and the intentions of the performing group into a song by admired group.
It should be clear that this version is one of the best and one of the most memorable Slayer covers there is.

Bing Ji Ling - “Shook Me All Night Long (an AC/DC cover)” @ myspace
Someone at Copy, Right? said it’s “the best Prince record he never did”. That’s quite much said about an AC/DC song, don’t you think?
A lovely indie rock song by Voxtrot, a title track of their new EP.
Combat Rock Industry presents the title track from the forthcoming Abduktio 7″/MCD. Hardcore with an edge. Abduktio’s debut full-lenght was one of my favourite albums last year, so I am kind of expecting good moments with this new release.
And if you’ve wondered why there haven’t been any updates for a couple of weeks, the reason is simple: it’s summer time. That means different priorities.
