Rotten Sound - “The Effects” @ MySpace
Taken from the forthcoming blast Cycles, due early 2008. Rotten Sound’s grinding isn’t that sharp anymore, but it’s definitely more organic and breathing than it was on Exit.
Mutagen - “Stabbed Through The Face” mp3
There’s not much I know about Mutagen, except they’re propably from the same town I live in and I know one of the members through a friend. I appreciate their blend of death metal: enough brutality, enough melody and definitely low enough vocals. Also the Cannibal Corpse groove they have is nice. More of their demo tracks @ Mikseri.
Casket - newer demo downloadable @ MySpace, older demo @ Mikseri
Young Finnish Death Metal. Not quite as old school as they claim, but still firmly rooted to the rotten soil and definitely no gimmicks.

Slayer - “Final Six” @ MySpace
A new Slayer song, or an outtake from Christ Illusion session if you like it more that way, is up at their MySpace. Starts off like a grown-up “Spill The Blood”, but then lands heavily on Slayer’s 2000’s sound. Hopefully this won’t be the last new Slayer track ever.
Vacant Coffin @ MySpace
What is better than old school death metal? Old school grindcore! Finnish Vacant Coffin are soon releasing their take on the sound of World Downfall and we are blessed.
Year Of The B-side? @ Blogs Are For Dogs
Blogs Are For Dogs shares Peter, Björn And John’s remix on The Shins’ “Australia” as well many other exceptional b-sides from 2007.
Paradise Vending - Ordinary Skies, an internet-only EP
Nice, laid-back music perfect for the time being. Listen to it before the summer is over.

Tony Naima & The Bitters - “Let The Napalm Rain (a Dismember cover)” @Myspace
Six months ago I wrote a short post on Tony Naima’s Dismember tribute album. On my year end’s list I gave it #10. Some month ago I listened to this again, it stuck on my car’s cd player for a good couple of days and every time “Let The Napalm Rain” gave me goosebumps. I hate to say it, but Tony Naima does Dismember better than Dismember themselves. It doesn’t matter are these death metal originals or not, this album is tryly great, innovative and energetic piece of music.
Chainsaw Dismemberment - “Fisting Till Bleeding” mp3 // “Zombie Infection” mp3 // “Suffocated Growls from the Rear Entry” mp3
“Put those fists in the fucking ass!!!” What? Sometimes it’s hard to explain why you do love metal and death metal especially so deeply. Finnish Chainsaw Dismemberment is not high IQ death metal, but their take on early 90’s style is so youthful and breathing it’s hard not to love them. “Fisting Till Bleeding” is the feel good hit of the summer, but listen to the stench of burning flesh on the guitar solo of “Suffocated Growls…”. 12-song demo and two live songs are available at Mikseri.net.
Kurhaus - “Propaganda of Dance” mp3
Another mp3 off their breath-taking A Future Pornography album. Dance like there’s no tomorrow!
Fulton Lights - “Thank God For the Evening News” mp3 // “Fire in the Palm of My Hand” mp3
If you’re reading this after 1 AM, please listen. One of those sample mp3’s that made me feel that I should buy the album just for the fact that it’s a debut, special pressing and one day will worth a fortune. But I won’t - yet.
Ghost Guard - “Hate Yourself Dead” mp3 // “Legacy Of Pain” mp3 // “Malice Intent” mp3
From Vaasa, Finland comes Ghost Guard. Rotten Sound’s Sami on drums. Their second demo Hate Yourself Dead doesn’t leave much to ve desired. Relentless beating from the word go. Leaves many other bands combining death metal to hardcore’s aggression behind. Hats off to Death influences.
Våld - “Dark Clouds” mp3
Just recently noticed that there are a shitload of live videos at Nasum.com. Two shows from 1999, one from 2001 (the Osaka show) and one from 2004, filmed a mere 45 days before Mieszko’s untimely death in the tsunami disaster.
And please don’t forget that “A Welcome Breeze of Stinking Air” (mp3) is one hell of a song!

General Surgery - “Slithering Maceration of Ulcerous Facial Tissue” mp3
General Surgery - “Ambulance Chaser” mp3
Swedish Carcass influenced goregrind band General Surgery is offering their early recordings for downloading: Erosive Offals demo I - 90, Pestiferous Antropophagia demo II -90 and Necrology CD 1993 (seven tracks clocking in some 15 minutes) / 7″ EP (five tracks) 1991. This is vintage goregrind with vintage Sunlight sound. For fans of early Carcass and early Xysma. Check out “Slithering Maceration of Ulcerous Facial Tissue” if you don’t believe me.
After reforming slowly after 2000, General Surgery have just released their first album Left Hand Pathology on Listenable Records. There are quite few more recent mp3s available as well, for example the energetic “Ambulance Chaser” which is a demo version of the song also on the album.

Rotten Sound - “Decay” mp3
Rotten Sound - “The Kill (a Napalm Death cover)” mp3
Finnish grindcore band Rotten Sound are giving finishing touches to their forth-coming Consume To Contaminate EP. CD version will be out on early June and the 12″ version (by Power-It-Up) by mid-August.
EP’s opening track “Decay” is already online, introducing band’s new drummer Sami (also Deathbound) for the first time. It grinds, nothing less. There’s also an epic Napalm Death cover online, apparently to be released on some ND tribute album, I guess.

Gadget - “H5N1″ mp3
Swedish grindcore band Gadget seize the moment with their new mp3 release “H5N1″, taken from their forthcoming album The Funeral March.
I liked Gadget’s Remote album more than any other grindcore release from 2004, it even challenged Nasum. Now judging by this new song, I can tell - even if heavy at heart - Swedish grindcore is still alive.

Codeon - “On My Side” mp3
Necrophagist - “Seven” mp3
Kai Hahto - Drum Solo At Tuska Open Air 2005 low wmv. / hi avi
Rotten Sound - “Western Cancer” mp3
Wings - “Sunburnt” mp3 sample
Wings - “Cast Asunder” mp3 sample
Deathbound - “For The Rats” mp3
Guitarist Sami Raatikainen from Helsinki-based metal band Codeon has been added to the ranks of German ultra-technical death metal beast Necrophagist. Now, that’s interesting news. I’ve never been much of friend to Codeon’s shredding, yet, but I sure am to Necrophagist.
First Finnish death metal scene simultaneously dropped jaws after reading about the co-op between Torture Killer and Six Feet Under/ex-Cannibal Corpse growler Chris Barnes, and now this - even if not as high profile, it’s nevertheless interesting news.
Earlier this week the news arrived that grindcore masters Rotten Sound and the drum god of the universe Kai Hahto have parted ways. OK, Hahto (check the video link for the cult following he has - my membership started in 1996 after Wings’ album) must have time issues with all his other projects, but what if he’d join forces with some well-known foreign band, as a friend of my suggested. How about Slayer, for example?
The new Rotten Sound drummer is Sami from Deathbound.

Watchmaker - “Dawn of Indifference/Nuked to Ashes” mp3
Watchmaker - “Irrevocable Change” mp3
Watchmaker - “Failing Upwards” mp3
Loud. Fucking. Noise.
Boston’s Watchmaker make loud fucking noise. I should put that on bold so you won’t miss it: loud fucking noise. Their two previous albums were honestly a bit too much for me, but their latest album Erased From The Memory of Man is easier to approach. It still is punishing crust/thrashcore/noise in the way only Watchmaker does it, but this time there are actually some memorable songs. It takes time to let it get into you, but if you are a friend of filthy music, it sure is worth it, I believe.
Watchmaker’s next release will be a split with Hirudinea on Bestial Onslaught records.

Shall Not Kill - “Social Sterility (a Napalm Death cover)” mp3
Now that’s one pissed off lady screaming her lungs out on this French Shall Not Kill’s version of Napalm Death song, originally from 1988’s From Enslavement To Obliteration album.
