There’s not much I know about Mutagen, except they’re propably from the same town I live in and I know one of the members through a friend. I appreciate their blend of death metal: enough brutality, enough melody and definitely low enough vocals. Also the Cannibal Corpse groove they have is nice. More of their demo tracks @ Mikseri.

Young Finnish Death Metal. Not quite as old school as they claim, but still firmly rooted to the rotten soil and definitely no gimmicks.

Through The Eyes Of The Dead - “Failure In The Flesh” mp3

There are differences in a death growl. Through The Eys Of The Dead’s debut album (Bloodlust, 2005) left me nauseous, because vocalist Gunnels multi-layered shrieks just watered down everything that was on the record.

Now the band returns, but in a different form. New frontman Nate Johnsson owns such a great growl, that it is hard not to love it. He’s not just screaming, he’s truly delivering the hatred that is written in the lyrics.

On Malice TTEOTD also shows how months on the tour do good for your band: in every possible way, the band is now tighter than anyone would have believed.

Give them another chance, if you have any lust left for modern American death metal.

A long-lost Polish techical death metal album from the mid-90’s? No - Watch Us Deteriorate is a debut album of Finnish techdeth act Crystallic. If you’ve ever thought Symbolic might be the best album ever, there’s a slight chance you can listen through “Severe Punishment”.

A new Entombed track at Candlelight USA’s myspace

Logh will play two shows in Finland in September. I’m especially happy to see them come to my hometown Jyväskylä and my homeclub Lutakko, on September 14. Just a few weeks ago I received a package from Trust No One, including last issue of Logh’s four-part 7″ series built around their The Raging Sun album. It’s lovely that the set is now full, four years after the first part was released.

You don’t need to be a scientist to realize this is pure death fucking metal. This is the title track of the new Vomitory album, so get a picture what rest of the material sounds like.

Both these tracks clock over 12 minutes mark, so I have a good reason to believe you have at least a vague idea what Grayceon sounds like. Just add little metal here and there and - applauses - cello. They are yet to master their art, but they sure are interesting new band to know about. Debut album was just released by Vendlus.

Six months ago I wrote a short post on Tony Naima’s Dismember tribute album. On my year end’s list I gave it #10. Some month ago I listened to this again, it stuck on my car’s cd player for a good couple of days and every time “Let The Napalm Rain” gave me goosebumps. I hate to say it, but Tony Naima does Dismember better than Dismember themselves. It doesn’t matter are these death metal originals or not, this album is tryly great, innovative and energetic piece of music.

“Put those fists in the fucking ass!!!” What? Sometimes it’s hard to explain why you do love metal and death metal especially so deeply. Finnish Chainsaw Dismemberment is not high IQ death metal, but their take on early 90’s style is so youthful and breathing it’s hard not to love them. “Fisting Till Bleeding” is the feel good hit of the summer, but listen to the stench of burning flesh on the guitar solo of “Suffocated Growls…”. 12-song demo and two live songs are available at Mikseri.net.

From Vaasa, Finland comes Ghost Guard. Rotten Sound’s Sami on drums. Their second demo Hate Yourself Dead doesn’t leave much to ve desired. Relentless beating from the word go. Leaves many other bands combining death metal to hardcore’s aggression behind. Hats off to Death influences.

Just recently noticed that there are a shitload of live videos at Nasum.com. Two shows from 1999, one from 2001 (the Osaka show) and one from 2004, filmed a mere 45 days before Mieszko’s untimely death in the tsunami disaster.

And please don’t forget that “A Welcome Breeze of Stinking Air” (mp3) is one hell of a song!

The frontline warriors of Finnish death/thrash metal Deathchain are preparing themselves for the 3rd attack. Cult Of Death will be released in May 27th (Dynamic Arts) and judging by the samples the band have taken a course to a broader approach. If you can call a heavy Morbid Angel influence on “Serpent of the Deep” “a broader approach”, that is; two other samples are more of the good old that we didn’t know we were even missing it.
