Slayer - “Final Six” @ MySpace
A new Slayer song, or an outtake from Christ Illusion session if you like it more that way, is up at their MySpace. Starts off like a grown-up “Spill The Blood”, but then lands heavily on Slayer’s 2000’s sound. Hopefully this won’t be the last new Slayer track ever.
Vacant Coffin @ MySpace
What is better than old school death metal? Old school grindcore! Finnish Vacant Coffin are soon releasing their take on the sound of World Downfall and we are blessed.
Year Of The B-side? @ Blogs Are For Dogs
Blogs Are For Dogs shares Peter, Björn And John’s remix on The Shins’ “Australia” as well many other exceptional b-sides from 2007.
Paradise Vending - Ordinary Skies, an internet-only EP
Nice, laid-back music perfect for the time being. Listen to it before the summer is over.

Deathchain - “Serpent of the Deep” sample mp3
Deathchain - “In the Crypt of Vengeance” sample mp3
Deathchain - “Witchstorm” sample mp3
The frontline warriors of Finnish death/thrash metal Deathchain are preparing themselves for the 3rd attack. Cult Of Death will be released in May 27th (Dynamic Arts) and judging by the samples the band have taken a course to a broader approach. If you can call a heavy Morbid Angel influence on “Serpent of the Deep” “a broader approach”, that is; two other samples are more of the good old that we didn’t know we were even missing it.
SXSW shows @ LHB
including - to name but a few - 65daysofstatic, 120 Days, Pipettes, Peter, Björn and John and The Stooges.
One AM Radio - “Lest I Forget” mp3
Suits best at the time of the day the band name suggests.
Charlatantric posted a new Interpol track “Like Ashes”. Hot damn! “Got a Devil by my bedside…”

Death Thrashers Kuopio - “Awaiting The Nuclear Fire” @ Myspace
It’s easy to play old school, but only few can become masters in what they so much appreciate. “Awaiting…” is a new track from DTK’s new demo; if you want an old classick, listen to “Sodoma’s Perversion”. City of Sodom Awaits!
Where Victims Lie - three new demo tracks
Sort of supergroup with rather super effort of deadly thrash metal.

Megadeth - “The Mechanix (live 1984)” YouTube
“I thought Kerry was an ass for doing that. I think he was kissing Dave’s ass or something. I thought Slayer was the best thing going on. Why go hang out with somebody else?”
- Jeff Hannemann according to Decibel’s Oral History of Slayer.
Slayer - “South Of Heaven (Live 1989)” YouTube
Slayer - “Mandatory Suicide (Live 1989)” YouTUbe
Slayer - “Raining Blood/Silent Scream (Live 1989)” YouTube
From English 1989 show(s), done by BBC2. Song is being cut by interviews with Tom. I’ve had this on VHS for several years, at least this looks really familiar. Anyway, this is Slayer at their peak.
Pantera - “1989 rehearsal at Joe’s Garage w/ Kerry King” YouTube
These are the wonders that make YouTube such a special service: Pre-major success Pantera rehearsing Slayer songs with Kerry King. It’s mostly learning through “South of Heaven” (and “Raining Blood” also) but altogether a really cool piece of heavy metal’s silent history. However, it makes me wonder what was the purpose of this session?

Slayer - “Eyes of the Insane (Live)” video
Metal HQ is offering a link for “Eyes of the Insane” live video. It’s multicam and professional - meaning I’d love to get rest of the show as well.
Slayer - Christ Illusion album stream
Christ Illusion have arrived. Enjoy. I’ll let you know in 12 months what I think about it. As for now - I can’t listen to anything else.

Slayer - Christ Illusion clips
30 second clips from each song from the new Slayer album. There is also an alternative, censored version of the cover art released. Not a surprise.

Malummeh - “Room 66″ mp3
A recent Spinefarm signee Malummeh sticks out from the line of Finnish bands. They blend neo-thrash metal with metalcore in a way that is very much murderous. This style have been covered by numerous bands lately, but from the Finnish point of view Malummeh are original, I say, and the Finnish factor, isolation, is audible as well in their mix.
I received a promotional copy of their debut demo Turning Point earlier this year and it was good enough to convince me of their talent. They’re a young band, few of the members still being minors I think, so they have time to develop much further. I was surprised however that they’ve signed a major deal. Hopefully it won’t be a case of too much, too soon.
They’re second demo is available for free download at their site, as is the debut demo too.

Aerogramme - “Disciple (a Slayer cover)” mp3
About a month after 6/6/06 I found out that Aerogramme have released an exclusive version of “Disciple” on that day. It falls into the category of Slayer covers that you hardly, if at all, recognize the original but instead attach the sound and the intentions of the performing group into a song by admired group.
It should be clear that this version is one of the best and one of the most memorable Slayer covers there is.

Nathan Dalton. Small, man & guitar songs with a dark (more dark as in the night time than dark as an atmosphere) overall tone. Full album, free download.
Nathan Dalton - “Terra, Terra” mp3
Here are some picks from You Tube:
Kevin Talley, 27, auditioning for Slayer in March 2002 before Dave Lombardo rejoined full-time. This kind of audiovisual material is a rare treasure. Kevin Talley have played drums for Dying Fetus, Misery Index and Chimaira plus he have toured with Suffocation and Hate Eternal (filling in for Derek Roddy with one week notice!). Earlier this year he played two sets in a night at The Red Chord/ Black Dahlia Murder tour. Are we speaking of human drum machine?
God Hates Us All songs
“War Ensemble”
Sepultura - Live at Giants of Rock festival 1991, Hämeenlinna, Finland. Recorded by Finnish broadcasting company YLE which means professional multi-camera work. I wouldn’t mind seeing this whole recording rerun on television or released on dvd.
“Dead Embryonic Cells”
“Troops of Doom”
“Desperate Cry”
“Beneath The Remains”

Deathbreath - “Dragged Through The Mud” stream
Deathbreath - “Coffins of the Unembalmed Dead” mp3 clip
Nicke Hellacopter’s old school death metal project Deathbreath have posted a new sample on their myspace. Even if the song itself is less filthy than the previous sample, it have the stench of death metal - and the vocals, they are the best. Another sample clip can be found on their new website. “Coffins of the Unembalmed Dead” gives death metal a more uptempo and autopsian stab on the back.
